A step-by-step look at how we welcome new families into the ISK community.
Before the school year begins, new families attend an orientation session. You will meet key staff, tour the campus, receive handbooks, and learn about daily routines and expectations.
During the first few days, your child will be paired with a buddy, meet their teachers, and explore their classroom. Our staff ensures every student feels safe and supported.
Classroom routines are established and students begin engaging with the curriculum. Teachers check in regularly with new students, and parents receive updates on their child's progress.
By the end of the first month, students are fully integrated into school life. Teachers schedule check-in meetings with parents to discuss adjustment and answer any questions.
Everything you need to know about the school day and daily routines.
The school day runs from 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday. Classrooms open at 7:30 AM for arrival, and after-school activities run until 4:30 PM.
ISK has a dress code that promotes a neat, professional appearance. Details on approved attire and the school uniform are provided during orientation and in the family handbook.
A hot lunch program is available on campus, offering nutritious meals daily. Students may also bring lunch from home. Snack breaks are built into the daily schedule.
ISK offers a school bus service covering major routes throughout Kigali. Families may also arrange private drop-off and pick-up. Details and routes are shared upon enrollment.
A wide range of extracurricular activities is offered, including sports, arts, music, robotics, and community service clubs. Activities change each semester based on student interest.
ISK integrates technology into learning across all grade levels. Students in upper grades participate in a one-to-one device program to support classroom and independent learning.
At ISK, we believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential for student success. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the school community.
Whether you are new to Kigali or have lived here for years, the ISK parent community is a welcoming and supportive network that helps families feel connected.
We provide dedicated resources and programs to help every new student feel welcome, supported, and ready to learn.
Every new student is paired with an experienced peer buddy who helps them navigate the school, introduces them to classmates, and provides friendly support during the first weeks. Buddies serve as a familiar face and a go-to resource.
Our school counselors provide social-emotional support to help new students adjust. Individual and small-group sessions address transition concerns, build confidence, and develop coping strategies for the changes that come with a new school environment.
For students whose first language is not English, our English as an Additional Language program provides targeted instruction. EAL specialists work alongside classroom teachers to ensure students can access the curriculum while building English proficiency.
Inclusive by Design: ISK welcomes students of all backgrounds and ability levels. Our learning support team works collaboratively with teachers and families to develop individualized plans that help every student thrive.
