"My mother and oldest sister were weavers, which inspired my vision. I returned to Rwanda and founded Gahaya Links to train rural women in modern basket weaving designs using traditional techniques."

"Women's economic empowerment provides the foundation for achieving sustainable dignity, peace and development. Making baskets is intricate because every thread you see is a stitch."

"Since we started weaving with Gahaya Links, our cooperative of 130 women has completed 25 iron sheet roofed houses. Our women can now afford food, clothing, tuition, and health insurance for their families."

"My first basket sales bought me a piece of Kitenge for my first dress. Now I have purchased a cow, own a savings account, and pay health insurance. My husband moved home to support my weaving business."

"As a genocide survivor who lost 65 family members, I found healing through weaving. I now lead a cooperative that includes relatives of my family's killers. Weaving has become our bridge to reconciliation."

"Since joining Gahaya Links, my family resumed treatment with improved nutrition. I trained my husband to weave at home. We purchased a decent home and our children now attend school."
